Why build another router OS.
Shapnet OS started with a simple frustration: routers that fight you. Opaque firmware, interfaces bolted on as an afterthought, and small changes that somehow turn into an evening of forum archaeology.
So this project optimizes for three things. Manageable — every setting lives in one clear interface, designed for this OS from day one. Maintainable — snapshot your settings before a change, restore them if you need to, move on with your life. Customizable — open code on standard x86 hardware, so the router bends to your network instead of the other way around.
The code is open under AGPLv3, because a router you can't audit is a router you don't really own. The first stable release is the whole mission right now — everything else comes after it ships.
Where this is going.
Release candidate
v1.0 is feature-complete and in hardening: bug fixes, documentation, and the installer pipeline. This is the boring part. It matters most.
First stable release
Public source code and a downloadable installer ISO. The core router, done properly, for everyone.
The enterprise layer
SD-WAN, high availability, QoS, and a full command-line interface — plus pre-configured appliances and Pro support for offices that want a phone number, not a forum.
